Steve Kurtz, renomado artista, professor e fundador do grupo Critical Art Ensemble, enfrenta desde 2004 uma batalha jurídica sem precedentes contra o governo norte-americano. A esposa morreu durante o sono na véspera de uma exibição do grupo sobre comida geneticamente modificada. Os paramédicos acharam o seu ateliê suspeito e chamaram o FBI. Kurtz teve o apartamento vasculhado por agentes, vestidos com roupa de proteção, que seqüestraram sua obra e até o corpo da sua mulher. Como não pode falar sobre o caso, a sua história é narrada com a ajuda de dramatizações, animações e noticiários.

Steve Kurtz, renowned artist, teacher and founder of the group Critical Art Ensemble, has been in an unprecedented legal battle with the U.S. government since 2004. His wife died in her sleep on the eve of the group’s exhibition on genetically modified food. Paramedics became suspicious when they saw his studio and called in the FBI. Kurtz stood by while agents combed his apartment wearing protective gear, confiscated his work and even took his wife’s body. Since he cannot talk about the case, his story is told using dramatizations, animation and news footage.

Nasceu em 1941 nos Estados Unidos. Formou-se na Case Western Reserve University em 1963 e na Universidade Federal de São Francisco em 1972. No fim da década de 70, foi uma das primeiras a utilizar mídias interativas em trabalhos de arte. Participou de mais de 200 exposições e realizou mais de 50 filmes e vídeos, incluindo os longas-metragens Conceiving Ada (1998) e Teknolust (2003).

At the end of the 1970s, she was one of the first artists to use interactive media in works of art.
